The process is a continuous wet-scrubbing process utilising MonoCat liquid catalyst to selectively scrub H2S from gas streams. Clean “sweet” gas exits the gas/liquid contactor. Once in solution, the H2S is catalytically oxidized to elemental sulphur. The catalyst is continually regenerated by a small addition of hydrogen peroxide and/or enriched oxygen. The produced sulphur is filtered from the circulating solution by means of a filter press. Periodically, the filter is emptied (without shutting down the process) and the resulting sulphur cake is discarded or land applied as a fertilizer. Process equipment includes, liquid / gas contactor(s), circulation pump(s), static mixer for H2O2, addition, air blower, development tank, chemicaladdition pumps, chemical storage tanks, and sulphur filter press.
H2S gas is absorbed into solution:
H2S(gas) + H2O = HS-
(aq) + H+
Hydro-sulphide ion is oxidized to sulphur:
HS-
(aq) + 2Fe+3 = So⇓ + 2Fe+2 + H+
Iron catalyst is regenerated:
2Fe+2 + H2O2 = 2Fe+3 + 2OHOverall
reaction:
H2S + H2O2 = So⇓+ 2H2O
