The firm was founded in 1979 by Sheila Sri Prakash who is internationally acknowledged as the first woman in India to establish a practice. She recently won an award from the University of Hannover in Germany and the University of Valencia in Spain for this achievement. A few years ago, Shilpa acquired a firm called SGBL Studio, which has offices in Chicago, New York and Seoul and has executed projects globally including the US, Belgium, Norway, China, Japan, Kuwait etc. Shilpa also executes high-end turnkey design-build solutions through a wholly-owned subsidiary called Stone Lotus. The firm is best known for its work in environmentally and socioeconomic ally sustainable design. Designers fromm Shilpa have represented India at several international forums as speakers and have been a part of the Indian delegation to the US Green Building Council, World Bank etc. The firm's portfolio spans the entire range of the real estate industry and ranges from housing, hospitality, commercial offices, sports to transport infrastructure.
