Supercritical Water Oxidation (SCWO)

SCWO is an oxidation and destruction method for organic compounds using oxygen and Supercritical Water (SCW), at a temperature over 374ºC and pressure over 22.1MPa.The viscosity and diffusivity of SCW are comparable with more like that of gas. On the other hand the density of the SCW is comparable with liquid. Those physical property mentioned, the SCW has high molecular kinematic energy. Therefore the region of SCW is considered as highly activated reaction phase.

When oxygen is injected into the SCW with organic compound, the organic compounds are oxidized and completely destroyed to carbon dioxide, nitrogen and water.Shinko Pantec (SP) has contracted with Eco Waste technologies (EWT) in the USA to get a technical license of SCWO technology. EWT built the first commercial SCWO plant (Huntsman plant, Huston) in 1994.And SP has constructed a demonstration plant of SCWO with a capacity of 1.1m3/hr, the largest SCWO test facility in Japan in March, 2000. Practical continuous treatment process for municipal wastewater has been investigated with this plant and performed successfully.SP and Chematur Engineering in Sweden, to which SCWO technology has also been introduced, are cooperated to development and world-wide sales promotion.

Characteristics

  1. Complete and rapid destruction of organic carbon, even if dioxin.
  2. None NOx, SOx, Dioxin and leachable soot which the insulation can not avoid.
  3. Generated materials are water, carbon dioxide and nitrogen gas.
  4. Energy recover is available.
