Treatability studies can be useful for water and wastewater. These studies involve coagulation-flocculation jar tests to determine the effectiveness of chemical treatment, coagulation, and flocculation processes for the removal of heavy metals and sludge. Effluents generated by the jar tests are analyzed for metals using ICPMS, ICP, and/or Cold Vapor AA and general chemistry parameters to determine the chemical composition of the effluent and the effectiveness of the treatment process. In addition to the jar tests, other analyses such as sludge volume, settling rate, specific gravity, and time-to-filter are performed to determine the sludge characteristics.
