No ceiling on GHG Emissions from thermal power plants

Company Name : Nepra Environmental Solutions Pvt.Ltd-bansi Source : Chemical Weekly

The Indian Government is not contemplating a national ceiling in quantitative terms to limit the total Green House Gas (GHG) Emission from thermal power plants. According to an official statement made by the Ministry of Environment And Forests, As per the Kyoto protocol only annex-1 parties (developed countries) are obliged to take emission reduction commitiments.

Developing countries, including India, on the other hade, have no such obligation,” Hence there is no proposal under construction to limit GHG emissions from thermal power stations,” the statement said. The statement however added that the Government has recently revised the National Ambient Air quality Standards, the area classification based on land-use has been done away with, so that there are uniform ambient air quality norms for residential and industrial areas.

These uniform norms are more stringent than the earlier industrial area norms.
