Report on inventorization of e-waste in two cities in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka

Company Name : Nepra Environmental Solutions Pvt. Ltd. Source : http://www.indiaenvironmentportal.org.in/content/report-inventorization-e-waste-two-cities-andhra-pradesh-and-karnataka-hyderabad-and-bangalo

This report on inventorization of e-waste in Hyderabad and Bangalore reveals that e-waste generation from household sector alone is expected to touch 1,07,886 MT in 2013 in Hyderabad and 1,30,383 MT in 2013 in Bangalore. Says that e-wastes in these two cities are going to increase due to high obsolescence rates, lack of policy for disposal for producers, consumers and manufacturers and lack of awareness.

The growing dependency on information technology, the fast rate of technological changes and better standard of living has lead to the rapid obsolescence rate of electronic equipments causing generation of e-waste. This e-waste finds its way into the hands of un authorized scrap dealers and finally joins the waste stream causing human and environmental hazards. The ewaste scrap is managed through various management alternatives such as reuse of equipment from second hand dealers, back yard recycling (manual dismantling and segregation into plastic, glass and metal) and finally into the municipal dumping yard. Mostly children and women are involved in this work.

This study has been carried out through field work in two cities Hyderabad and Bangalore.
