Beginning in the New Year, a new state law requires residents to recycle electronic waste – computers, televisions and cell phones – instead of trashing them.
Recycle everything you can!
This means that, effective Jan. 1, municipal waste-haulers will no longer collect any e-waste left curbside. Luckily, Cherry Hill is ahead of the curve. Since 2008, the Dept. of Public Works (1 Perina Blvd.) has been home to a designated e-waste drop-off point, accessible to residents 24/7. Staff is available from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays to collect and store items dropped off by residents. During off-hours, a drop-off station is set up outside the building.
I’d also like to note that January will also usher in expanded plastics recycling here in Cherry Hill. This is wonderful news for our Township, as our recycling facility currently only accepts plastics #1 and 2. Effective Jan. 1, plastics #4, 5, and 7 will be added into the mix, meaning many more common household items can be taken out of the waste-stream permanently. Please note that plastics #3 and 6, plastic bags and plastic goods that are not numbered still cannot be recycled. For more information on either of these items.
