Researchers from BASF, Energies Baden-wurttemberg AG (EnBW), Heidelberg University and karlssruhe institute of technology (KIT) are working on a new project for recycling of green house gases. This German research consortium is planning to utilize carbon dioxide as an energy source with the aid of sunlight. The project’solar2fuel’ belongs to the ‘Forum organic Electronics’ excellence cluster and is being sponsored by the federal Ministry of Education and Research of Germany with more than 1-mn over two year.
The scientists are seeking to convert co2 into a fuel cell or retrofitted internal combustion engines – a step towards implementing environmentally conscious mobility technologies and simultaneously an alternative to existing carbon dioxide storage plans. While public discussion has so far centred mainly on the underground storage of carbon dioxide. In this project, the carbon in carbon dioxide is converted in to climate neutral fuels with the aid of sunlight.
