Bangalore, Jan 4: The first integrated ''waste to energy'' eight MW power plant under Green Power option will be set up in this tech hub which is among the fastest growing cities in the country.
The plant, the first of its kind in the country, uses solid waste produced in the city to generate power. The first such initiative is being promoted by Srinivasa Gayithri Resources Recovery Ltd in association with Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagaa Palike (BBMP) under a PPP initiative.
A Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), between the producer and Karnataka Power Corporation Limited (KPCL), was signed today by the officers concerned in the presence of Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa and Minister for Energy Shobha Kharndlaje.
While disposing off Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) produced from the city as per MSW rules 2000, the company would generate eco-friendly power.
