India's solar industry all set to take off

Company Name : Generic Source : Cooler Planet

A Western Indian state is positioning itself to be the center of the subcontinent's solar industry, according to published reports.

Gujarat, which encompasses 196,000 square kilometers, generates as much as six kilowatts per hour per square meter, which is higher than solar figures for Spain. Gujarat also created an agency tasked with cultivating renewable energy, the Gujarat Energy Development Agency (GEDA). That was one of the first Indian states to create an agency, which occurred in 1979.

In response to Gujarat announcing intentions to generate 500 megawatts of solar energy by March 2014, the capacity of solar energy that would be generated if all applications were accommodated would be more than 5,000 megawatts.

Plans are well underway to convene "The Solar Future: India" late next month. The international conference features the managing director of GEDA as one speaker. It will be held in New Dehli on January 24 and 25.

The conference also will feature solar and photovoltaic stakeholders for networking opportunities as part of an industry with the potential to foment more than $50 billion in annual revenues by 2012.
