New Delhi, June 19 --
The Commonwealth Games Village is living up to its name of being a green township. The village will be a no waste discharge zone, with a state-of-the-art sewage treatment plant that will treat all waste locally.
In addition to the treatment plant, the village has been equipped with a water treatment plant, which is also a zero liquid waster discharge plant. These plants will be inaugurated on Saturday.
The Games village has come up on the Yamuna river banks. Various NGOs had expressed fears that waste generated from the 1,168 odd flats in the Games complex would discharge waste into the already polluted river.
The Yamuna accounts for almost 70 of Delhi's water supply.
